Research Interests (300 words)
I am broadly interested in studying crop evolution and its phenotypic consequences related to adaptation and exploiting these phenotypic modifications for crop improvement. Specifically, I am studying the potential effects of leaf shape variation in root crop improvement in sweet potato. Lead shape in sweet potato is highly diverse and might be an adaptive trait helping the crop grow better in respective environments. Furthermore, leaf shape has been linked to the nutritional quality of crops in multiple species but little is known as to whether this is a direct or indirect link and what is the underlying mechanism. Broadly, I am thus interested in traits that can lead to crop improvement for consumption either by improving nutritional qualities or by increasing yield.
