Hello Dr. Miller,
We have successfully preformed the leaf flotation protocol, and, as expected, adding carbon dioxide to the water helped the plant preform photosynthesis, as CO2 is a necessary ingredient for photosynthesis to occur.
Now that we've learned more about that, we are beginning to design our own personal experiments on photosynthesis using the question "How does ____ effect photosynthesis?" Some of our ideas include adding carbonation, acids, milk, or vinegar to the water and testing to see if the leaf flotation protocol is still effective. Another option would be to expose the plant to music, as there have been studies saying that plants grow differently when exposed to certain genres of music.
If you have any input on which of these options may be the best to experiment with, or if you have any other suggestions, please let us know!
