Prediction: Conclusion:
If we change the location of the pollen traps and spread them out across the grounds, will it collect more and different types of pollen?

The Black Cows

Prediction:
how does powerade affect the growth of plants.

Starfox ShadowRaptors

Prediction: Conclusion:
Where and why are pollinators attracted to certain beds of flowers? Pollen Study Which flower has the biggest pollen grains?

The Mannequins

Does feading your plant higher nutrient weater affect the number of hairs on the first true leaf? Does feading your plant higher nutrient weater affect the over all height of the plant?

Prediction: Conclusion:
Zinnia Observations Composite Orange Same stem 1 ½ feet tall Green leaves Narrow leaves Long leaves Sunflower Observations Tall Single stem Composite Broad, wide leaves Thin small petals Black-eyed Susan Observations Composite Taller than zinnia but shorter than sunflower Thin stem Thin petals Bright yellow petals Day lily Observations Tall Huge Wide petals Thick stem Anthers

Flower Patch Kids

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
We observed flower bed for ten minutes and saw which plants the pollinators landed on. Pollen Study Observations - Daylily: Large, red/orange color, single flower, long petals, short orange stamen - Asiatic Lily: large, white color, single flower, long petals, long brown stamen - Cardinal Flower: Small, Thin, long, bright orange, multiple flower, thick stem/leaves - Cornflower: Small, circular, purple, single flower, thin stem/leaves - Sunflower: Small, orange/brown color, single flower, short petals, composite flower

The Three Leaf Clovers

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
What type of pollinators will visit this plant bed Pollen Study Observations- Single flowers, composite flowers, size of flowers. We will compare the pollen from composite flowers and single flowers and find the bigger size.

The Bumble Bees

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
Will the pollinators like the flowers in the sun more than the ones in the shade. pollen study: The larger flowers will have more pollen than the other flowers. The Hollyhock, the Sunflower, and the Daylily are the larger flowers, so they will have more.

Black-Eyed Susans

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
1. Hypothesis: Bees don’t like white Begonias. 2.Make hypothesis: Our prediction is that the pollen of the asiatic lily and the day lily will look similar. Also since the hollyhock and mallow look similar maybe their pollen samples will look similar. We also think the black eyed susan will look different than all of the other flowers because it doesn’t look the same as all them.

Flower Power

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
1. Do bees only like to pollinate on certain colors of the same flower? 2. Do plants of differentiating heights produce diverse sizes of pollen grains?

The Killer Bees

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
What element in plants attracts pollinatiors?

The Jumpiing Daisys

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
What attracts pollinators to flowers? Pollen Study: Observations: Zinnia- small, colorful, flat circular petals Asiatic Lily- white, big curvy petals, the stamen is long and exposed Corn Flower- purple, small petals Sun Flower- orange and yellow, medium in size, pointed petals

the buzzin hornets

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
Which flower will get the most pollinators? pollen study Cardinal Flower: Orangish-red Long stems Many small flowers per stem Cornflower Blueish Purple color Long, thin stem One small flower per stem Mallow Light purple color One continuous petal White center Grows in bunches Many leaves Hollyhock Very large Purple/pink continuous petal White/yellow core Long thicker stems Small bunches Asiatic lily Large white flowers Large brown anthers Sharp petals Grows in bunches

Prediction: Conclusion:
Pick flower bed/observations: Ageratums: Blue-violet, small, rough, smell sweet. Geraniums: Pink, small petals, look more alive, smell like carrots, tall, really soft petals. Alyssums: White, small, soft, smell sweet. Pollen Study: Observations: The Cornflower is purple. The Cardinal flower is red. Hollyhock is a very large non-composite. Black- eyed susan is a composite flower so it has many flowers. Composite flowers are petals rather than leaves. Non-composite flowers have yellow center. The cardinal flower has a long stem.

The Bee Team

St. Sebastian School

Prediction: Conclusion:
What color flowers will attract the most pollinators? Pollen study Black eyed Susan – The black eyed Susan has long thin yellow peddles and a black center. As they bloom the peddles, stick upward more then down and at the end of the season they are pointing more downward. This flower is a composite. Sun flower-The sun flower is much like the Black eyed Susan but, different to. The sun flower is tall and has yellowish orange peddles. (The color depends on the time of the season they are more orange at the beginning and more yellow at the end.) The middle of the sun flower is orange at the beginning of the season and by the end it is black. This flower is a composite just like the Black eyed Susan. Mallow- The mallow is purple and has multiple stems. This flower is more delicate then the others it is softer. Unlike the Black eyed Susan and the sun flower this flower is not a composite flower. Asiatic lily- This is the largest flower out of the others. This flower is found in a variety of colors they range from white, red, purple, orange, pink and, yellow. This flower is not composite. Butterfly weed-This flower comes in 3 colors yellow, orange and, red. This flower is one of the smallest out of the 5 and it has multiple stems. This flower is also a none composite.

Ms. Gesine Pufal
I am interested in plant dispersal, especially different fruit types and strategies that plants use to transport their seeds. Currently I am working on small alpine plants that disperse their seeds over short distances only with the help of raindrops and have especially designed fruits to realize that.
